UPDATE 6/20//21

Yup I miscalculated. I had thought that The Trump would take bit of time to rebuild influence, if indeed he did, as others like Lynn Cheney stepped up to take his place. But the Trumpers have been making significant strides at state and local level for a comeback. This means they may show big at the midterm elections, which essentially will rollback Dem numbers and influence in Congress. So Biden and the boys have been scrambling to push through everything they can. They have a very short window of opportunity. Thus the full court press on a host of issues, including redmeat items the GOP will exploit to the max: race and other social issues like transgenderism in schools and women's sports, as part of the left-wing agenda.

Biden hopes to maximize black turnout by pumping up symbolic issues blacks might like, (Junteenth Holiday) for example, though there was no great push among blacks for such a holiday. Likewise "Black Lives Matter" anti-police mobilization is designed to keep race highly visible in the media.. The idea is to pump up black turnout at the midterms in key races. This however can be a double edged sword. Right-wingers have seized on the "race card" to gin up a "Critical Race Theory" bogeyman as part of a culture war wedge attack. The black bogeyman-white backlash frame has paid off countless times in the past for the right, and may do so yet again. Likewise BLM excesses and "noisy negro" visibility may well play into Trumper hands in mobilizing their base. They question is whose "base" will generate enough turnout in key areas? Stay tuned..

UPDATE 11/7/20

Looks like its a wrap. The Don is done.

But one final bonus of a Biden administration for Republicans: Biden is not a hardcore ideologue. He style is that of a deal-maker, with moderate flavor, "reaching across the aisle." This spells bad news for leftist progressives and groups including BLM and Ocasio-Cortez, who expect radical or sweeping action. A recent article from the NYT echoes the case- dissatisfaction among liberals and progressives over "go slow Joe." Yet another article notes some Dem moderates lamenting progressive/leftist rhetoric that they claim led to sub-par performance in the 2020 elections. QUOTE:

"A number of progressive House Democrats are pushing back against moderates’ claims that progressive policies and messaging are the reason for the party’s subpar performance in last week’s election. In a call last week, House Democrats pointed fingers, trading blame for the party having lost a number of House seats, during which Representative Abigail Spanberger (D., Va.) said, “No one should say ‘defund the police’ ever again” or the party would get “torn apart” in 2022.”

But while Biden will be under pressure from the left, he likely will not strongly push certain culture war issues, or will go slower, compared to say, the more relentless Hilary. Furthermore, Kamala Harris is in a spot where she cannot push much either. Old Dem hand Willie Brown told Harris previously, that she should refuse the VP offer and instead angle for Attorney General in a Biden Administration, where she could help along substantial change. But she is stuck in the relatively powerless VP chair. For Repubs, it could have been a lot worse. If the Dems had to have a win, better they have it NOW, under a slower-paced, somewhat moderate Biden, it could be argued, as compared to a younger, more relentless, and radical Democrat leader.

11/4/20:

As of this writing the election count grinds on with Biden holding the edge. If the map below is correct, a Biden win in any of the remaining states (assuming the prelim tallies are true) means victory. The Don needs to win all 4 remaining states, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina and Nevada. The math is daunting, but still doable as of this writing. Various recount challenges may complicate the layout above. Many Dems known by this writer boldly predicted a landslide based on polling 3 months or even 2 months ago- it was supposed to be a cakewalk. Hasn't turned out that way.

Based on the numbers and odds to this point, a Biden win seems increasingly more probable, though the door is still open. This brings up some earlier points raised in April. If Biden wins, would it be the apocalyptic event so feared by assorted Republicans'? Not quite I say pilgrim. Let's recap.

The Atlantic article referenced below notes that if Biden wins he would have a huge amount of heavy lifting to do in a post-Corona/Covid America. Like so:

"If Joe Biden wins the election in November, he will likely be sworn in—perhaps virtually—under the most challenging circumstances since Harry Truman became president in 1945. The country will probably be in the end stages of a brutal pandemic and faced with the worst economy since the Great Depression. The Treasury will be significantly depleted. Millions of people will have lost loved ones, their jobs, much of their net worth..

Biden’s first and toughest challenge will be to address the badly frayed governance compact, in which citizens expect and trust the government to deliver on essential services. .

Biden’s second herculean task will be resurrecting the national economy. By January 2021, the United States will likely have tried numerous unprecedented fiscal and Fed efforts to keep the faint pulse of the national economy going, but unemployment will still be in the double digits and entire industries will remain decimated. With the end finally in sight, the government will need to urgently figure out how to get as many businesses as possible up and running and people back to work. This effort would be challenging in the best of times, but the pandemic likely will have changed the very nature of work in America. A simple restart is not possible.

The third challenge is international. .. in 2021, a number of crucial problems must be addressed collectively. How can the vaccine be distributed globally, at a reasonable cost, and to those who need it most? How can governments work together to put in place an international architecture of surveillance, rapid response, and a scalable industrial base for crucial medical supplies so everyone is prepared for the next pandemic? As governments rebuild their national economies and focus on restoring their domestic industries, how do they do so in a way that also creates a healthy global economy that works to everyone’s benefit? And, as the world opens back up, how can countries deal with the geopolitical crises that will inevitably emerge from this period? .. This leads to the most vexing post-coronavirus challenge: how to manage the China dimension. China’s failure to be honest about COVID-19 increased the risks to the rest of the world, its pressure on the World Health Organization compromised a vital international institution when people needed it most, and its propaganda war to place the blame on the United States amounted to the throwing of a gauntlet in a superpower competition.."

So in a dismal post-Covid landscape what are the pluses for Republicans'?

1-- Primary Trump mission was accomplished- stop Hilary, rollback Obama.

2-- Sit back and snipe while Dems struggle.
3- The Covid checkmate would stymie rash Democrat action

4-- Lucrative Biden gaffes and thus bashing opportunities.
5-- Supremes lock-in agenda with newest Justice, Amy Barrett.
6-- Slower pace Biden admin compared to a more relentless Dem leader

The finally outcomes will take shape in the next few days and months.

Data from New York and Minnesota show that blacks stopped had LESS weapons or contraband on them than whites, yet blacks were disproportionately stopped, searched and experienced more use of police force against them.

Data from the city of Minneapolis itself. The blacks were stopped almost 3 times the rate of whites, and were in higher crime hoods, yet whites stops yielded MORE contraband than blacks or Latinos..
